I am sure you know how efficient our bodies are, they are built to perform effectively, even when we don’t always do our best to support that work. The importance of the food we eat, and the movement we provide our bodies is to facilitate the work our body does- essentially we support our body by minimizing any additional workload.
But the reality is, we don’t always eat the best food, and keep ourselves as active as we should. Nevertheless our body is still pretty resilient and can work with it, and that is where cleansing our system comes into play.
Now I am not a medical professional, and you should always listen to your body, but the information I will share comes from personal experience as well as research into how our bodies can maintain balance- homeostasis. (We homeschool and homeostasis is a huge part of all science subjects).
So here are some ways you can help your body reset and balance.
- Don’t eat too late: Providing our body at least 12 hours between dinner and breakfast, allows the body to complete the digestion process of the food we take in, which takes about 8 hours, and then allows extra time to work on the backlog, the undigested waste we haven’t been able to fully break down. This waste includes undigested food, but also cellular waste from our body’s normal functioning.
- Easily digested dinner is Key: While you are cleansing, try to avoid heavy food. Lean towards simple dishes high in fiber and green vegetables, soups, or salads.
- Digestive Support: Supplement with milk thistle or triphala. Both herbs support the digestive system. If you just want to get started and don’t want to add something else to your shopping list, add a bit more garlic to your dinner. Try not too overcook the garlic by adding it near the end. Better yet- leave it raw and add it to salad dressing made of garlic, avocado oil, and apple cider vinegar.
- Skin Detox: Your skin is the largest organ in your body. Be mindful of what you put on it, especially during a detox. For an added boost, use a soap with activated charcoal such as our Rooted Soap. You can also give it an extra kick by taking a bath alternating with either bath salts or bentonite clay. Don’t use both at the same time as bath salts encourage your body to absorb minerals, while bentonite clay draws toxins out- you don’t want to reabsorb toxins that are being pulled out by combining the two at the same time.
There are many more ways to support your body with a cleanse, in fact, regular seasonal cleanses is a great place to start. As you create your ritual, don’t worry about how many days, just start. You can build up over time.
